Loose leaf tea is not complicated. But it rewards a little attention.
Temperature matters
Boiling water is too hot for most teas and for rooibos. We recommend 90°C for our blends. If you do not have a temperature kettle, bring the water to a boil and let it sit for 90 seconds.
The right amount
One heaped teaspoon per 200ml. That is our baseline. If you want it stronger, steep longer, do not add more leaves. Adding more leaves makes the tea bitter. Steeping longer makes it deeper.
Time
Our blends are best steeped for 4-6 minutes. Remove the leaves at the end. Leaving them in too long will give you a more astringent cup. Some people love that. Most do not.
The vessel
A pre-warmed mug makes a real difference. Pour a little hot water in before you brew, swirl it around, discard it. Your tea stays warm longer. The ritual is part of the pause.
That is it. Take your time. That is the point.
