A Weekend at Stables: Rugby, Laughs, and Kol Kol Nights
A Weekend at Stables: Rugby, Laughs, and Kol Kol Nights November 18, 2025 Sunsets, Slow Living & Good Company at Stables Guesthouse November 29, 2025 We’ve just returned from the most wonderful weekend getaway at Christelle and Dave’s charming Little Shearwater Guesthouse. Tucked away in a peaceful spot with the perfect blend of cosy vibes and beautiful surroundings, it was the ideal place to relax with friends and family. The absolute highlights of our stay were the incredible wood-fired pizza lunch and the luxurious KolKol wood-fired hot tub. Those two experiences alone made the entire trip unforgettable! First, the pizza. Oh my goodness, it was outstanding. Christelle and Dave have a fantastic outdoor wood-burning pizza oven, we were  all ready to roll up our sleeves and make our own pizzas for lunch. What a brilliant, hands-on activity it turned out to be! We gathered round, stretching dough, choosing toppings, and sliding each creation into the roaring fire. There’s something so joyful and communal about it: everyone laughing, experimenting with flavours, watching the flames, and eagerly waiting for that perfect blistered crust. The taste was simply amazing. The dough carried a subtle, delicious smokiness from the wood fire that you just can’t get from a conventional oven. Crispy edges, melty cheese, and that authentic smoky flavour in every bite. We devoured plate after plate; honestly some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. The fact that we’d all made our own made it even more special. It wasn’t just lunch; it was a memorable shared experience we’re still talking about. As the summer day eased into evening (those evenings can still get surprisingly chilly!), the KolKol hot tub was pure magic. If you’ve never experienced a wood-fired hot tub, you’re seriously missing out. No electricity required: just light the fire in the submerged stove, let the water warm naturally, and slip into total relaxation. The soft crackle of burning wood, steam curling into the crisp air, and that deep, enveloping warmth… absolute heaven. We spent hours chatting, stargazing, and letting every bit of stress melt away. On a cool summer night it felt like our own private spa right there at the guesthouse. Little Shearwater Guesthouse truly knows how to create warm, lasting memories. If you’re after a place that combines wonderful hospitality, fantastic foodie moments, and proper relaxation, Christelle and Dave’s is a must-visit. We left feeling refreshed, happily full, and already plotting our return. Highly recommend, especially if pizza and hot tubs are your love language! Share 2 Sophia Wiehann
