Scripts, stock and compliance in one place

A pharmacy operation where the paperwork is regulated, the stock is expensive, and the two were being tracked in different places by different people.

What was wrong

Healthcare carries record keeping obligations that do not bend, and a pharmacy carries stock that expires. Handling those in separate systems means the compliance record and the commercial reality drift apart, and reconciling them is somebody's whole week.

What we built

One system covering the script, the dispensing record, the stock movement and the customer, with portals for the different people who need different slices of it. Access is role based, because a delivery driver and a pharmacist should not see the same screen. Personal information is treated as a POPIA obligation from the first table rather than a policy page added at the end.

What changed

Stock reconciles as a side effect of doing the work rather than as a monthly exercise, and the regulatory record is produced from the same data instead of being assembled separately.
